Helping families to be attentive to God and one another
Hi-Q Communication
Here's an idea that might help your family discover the importance of clear communication. This idea came to me as I was playing the game Hi-Q at the 2005 Yoder Christmas gathering with my son and daughter.
Hi - Q is a game that is typically played individually. However a twist on the game is to play it with two people, alternating turns. So in our case at the Yoder family gathering, Matthew took jumped a peg, then I jumped a peg, then Matthew, then I, and so on. The catch is that the two can not communicate each other's moves. But rather each needs to discern the other's strategy and follow their lead when there is a strategy.
The first time we played, there was 5 pegs remaining. The second time, there were 4 pegs. The thirds time, we got it down to just two. By that time, we were able to figure out each other's strategy and play with each other.
Then Michelle joined us and the three of us alternated turns. It provided with some fascinating results.
As you play this game, you begin to see the importance of communication. The kind of communication that does not come from words or facial expressions, but the kind that come from observing the other's "strategy".
In order for communication to be effective, even when communication includes words, discerning each other's strategy is a significant part of making sure communication is clear.
Communication is vital for families who desire to grow in attentiveness to each other.
For the strengthening of your family,
